Walton County tourism numbers
WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The numbers are in for Walton County tourism.
This June and July, tourism officials say Walton County saw steady growth in tourism, about three percent.
But in the "shoulder months"--April and May and October and November--Walton County saw a big uptick in tourism, hovering around 20 percent.
Tourism officials say tourists are also spending more money.
"So the total economic impact is about $4.3 billion a year, and most of that does come during the summertime, so our local businesses and employees really need those visitors to come and support us not only during the summer but in the fall season and spring as well," said David Demarest with Visit South Walton.
Demarest also says tourists account for 77 percent of all retail spending in Walton County.
The county saw the most visitors in July.
